Fun and Family

During the early part of the week, they had all the missionaries go around to the 5 different challenge courses here at camp.  We spent about 3 hours at each course which allowed the missionaries assigned to the course some practical experience so when the YW and campers come, they will know what they are doing.  This log was about 30 feet high and quite hard to climb.

Jan made it 3/4 of the way up before falling of the log because the foot holds where to far apart for her short legs.  I was proud of her for trying and for her gallant effort. She was 1 of only 3 ladies who tried it.

On Saturday the camp held an open house for any one who wished to visit and view the camp.   They estimated over 450 people showed up.  Most were young women leaders who camp to check out where they would be camping this summer.  The weather was cold and rainy, but that didn't dampen peoples spirits.  We were lucky enough to have quite a few friends and family show up also.
Family, Ullery's, Freestones.  Not pictured-Jermans and Voorheis

The next morning this is what we woke up to.  I thought it was quite beautiful.

This is where the Priesthood brethren get to stay when they arrive.
Some day's the squirrels think we're nuts, but hey, we're havin fun.

Seek and Destroy!

As you can tell, we are still learning how to write a blog, as well as trying to learn our new duties
here at camp.  The good part is we are doing better at learning our work responsibilities than we are blogging.

When we arrived at camp, we were assigned to be Camp Host.  There are 8 different camps site at this camp, each one housing between 250-350 young women each week.  Each camp site has 2 couples assigned to it as hosts.  The hosts are responsible to help the groups wherever need.  They also present a 'Women of Faith" lecture detailing the life of the women their particular camp is named after.  We were assigned to the Marjorie Pay Hinkley camp.

Soon after our assignment came, we were asked to accept a transfer.  Another couple did not like the assignment they had been given, and threatened to go home if they were not changed. The Managing Director ask if we would trade them places.  We told him we were here to do anything we were asked to do.  Soooo--we were put in to be one of two couples over 'Range Management'.  We accepted this new assignment with heavy hearts and sadness. We so much wanted to work with the YW.

Our new duties include controlling all the animals, water, insects and weeds.  We have free run of all 8000 acres of camp property.  We have a camp issued 'side by side 4X4' we ride around in each day (looking for things to control)  If it weren't for this being a church camp, I would call these sorties (Seek and Destroy) missions.

Spraying the cabins before the campers arrive.

There are 8 different "Out Back" camps that need to be sprayed for weeds and insects also.   So far we have only been able to get to 4 of them because of snow.

The scenery is beautiful (and the land scape ain't to bad either)

Well as you can see, we are buried pretty deep in our new duties.  We have seen 100s of deer, 5-6 Moose, and a herd of around 50 elk.  We are lovin it here, and we are grateful the Lord saw fit to call us here.

PS...THIS JUST IN.  The camp director just ask if Jan would help out as a 3rd camp host at Camp Hinkley.  It is the largest of  the 8 camps, and they could really use the help.  Of course she said yes, and is greatly thrilled.  I on the other hand get to continue to SEEK AND DESTROY!!!
